Storing things in our phones is, well, pretty convenient. And with digitisation picking up speed in the UAE, digital storage now covers important documents as well.

As a working individual, one such important doc would be a labour card - this too can now be accessed online. Let’s get to the know-how and see how you can access your labour card digitally!

How’s the Labour Card Important? 

Labour card, often referred to as a work permit, is issued by the UAE MOHRE or the relevant authority in your free zone. Provided to employees in the UAE, this card contains details such as your name, nationality, employment details, and more.

For workers in the country, this card functions as identity proof. It is also used for services related to salary queries/complaints, visas, and more.

How to Get the Digital Version of the Labour Card? 

To get your labour card’s digital version, you would be required to use the UAE PASS app, which is a type of national digital identity for residents and citizens alike. You can utilise UAE PASS for services such as document authentication, digital signatures, and more.

So How Can I Create My UAE Pass Account?

The process is pretty easy - you just need to follow these steps -

  • Download the app and choose the option for creating an account. 
  • Go through the ‘Terms and Conditions’ and accept them to proceed. 
  • If you have an Emirates ID, select the option for scanning. Once done, simply provide confirmation for the details obtained by scanning.
  • Verify details like your mobile number and enter the OTP received on your registered number. Provide the OTP received on your mail as well.
  • After this, create a PIN. 
  • As per your preference, you can also utilise the option to upgrade your UAE Pass. For this, you would need to initiate face recognition (biometric) and follow the prompted instructions.

The Steps to Get Your Labour Card on the UAE Pass App

  • Once you are logged into the app, choose the option for adding documents. 
  • Locate the header for the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE). Select the ‘Labour Card’ option.
  • Ensure that your Emirates ID number is entered here in the app automatically. This number is mandatory for accessing your card.
  • Provide confirmation for your request (for retrieving the card).
  • Once done, you will have a message on your screen confirming your request and that you will be notified once the said documents are available.
  • The app will notify you once your card is successfully uploaded.

Here are the steps to be followed next -

  • Open the app and locate the section for documents in the menu. 
  • You will see the ‘Labour Card’ button. Click on it to have your labour card-related details displayed.
  • Choose the option for viewing the document to open its digital version.

The benefits of storing and accessing this card digitally are plenty. It is easily accessible and is secured by blockchain technology (used for the UAE PASS app). Moreover, instead of physically carrying this card, you can simply present the digital one in case you are required to do so with any relevant government authorities. Simply open the app and choose the option for the verification of QR for this document. Once done, the authorities would be able to easily scan it.
