1. Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters -

  • Visit the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters:
    • Location:  Shakhbout bin Sultan Street, Abu Dhabi

3. TAMM

You can also use TAMM to transfer vehicle ownership and for used car registration in Abu Dhabi. This service allows you to transfer vehicle registration to a new owner. Overseen by Abu Dhabi Police and provided by TAMM, the process involves these steps:

  • Visit the TAMM portal. 
  • Sign in to the account using your UAE Pass. 
  • Go to the Drive and Transport tab. 
  • Click on the Manage Personal Vehicle tab from the list present on the upper left side. 
  • Here, click on the ‘Transfer Vehicle Ownership’ option. 
  • Click on the Start Service tab. 
  • Fill in the registration form and submit it with all the required documents.

Things to Keep in Mind When Registering a Used Car in Abu Dhabi

Before transferring vehicle ownership in Abu Dhabi, both the seller and the buyer should keep these points in mind - 

  • For Sellers - Ensure your car insurance is valid for at least 13 months during the transfer period.
  • Presence Required - Both the seller and the buyer must be present, especially for a first-time transfer.

Abu Dhabi Vehicle Registration Validity

The car registration in Abu Dhabi, whether for a new or a used car, is valid only for 12 months. There are an additional 30 days of grace period (after completion of 12 months) during which you need to renew your vehicle registration in Abu Dhabi. 

If you drive around the Emirates with an expired vehicle registration, there is a hefty fine of AED 500 and 4 black points in Abu Dhabi on your driving record each time you cross the toll gate. 

Earlier, the fine for driving with an expired car registration (of more than 30-days grace period) was AED 10 per month. The fines have been revised with the activation of Abu Dhabi Darb toll gate system. 

According to this revised rule, there is a grace period of 10 days for unregistered cars for passing through the toll gate. After this grace period the fines for unregistered cars are as follows -

  • First passage: AED 100. 
  • Second passage: AED 200.
  • Third passage and subsequent passages: AED 400 each. 

Note: If you do not renew the car registration in Abu Dhabi within the grace period, you can also lose your driving licence and your vehicle can get confiscated for a week.
