Can You Get an Exemption from Emirates ID Fines?

If you have received a fine for late Emirates ID renewal or registration, you may be eligible for an exemption under certain conditions. The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP) permits residents to request a waiver of fines if they have valid reasons for the delay.

However, to qualify for an exemption, you must provide official documents as proof.

Who Can Apply for an Emirates ID Fine Exemption?

Not everyone is eligible for a fine exemption.

The UAE government has outlined specific categories of people who can request a waiver. These include —

You may qualify for a fine waiver if:

✅ You were outside the UAE for over three months when your ID expired

✅ Your residency expired while you were abroad

✅ Your passport was held due to legal proceedings or renewal delays

✅ You were sick, bedridden or had a contagious disease (proof required)

✅ You are a diplomat or consular staff (official letter required)

✅ You are over 70 years old and unable to visit a service center

✅ There was a system error or mistake by ICP staff or typing centers

To apply for an exemption, you need to provide official supporting documents such as:
📜 Travel records if you were outside the UAE
📜 Medical certificates if you were sick
📜 Official letters from authorities if your passport was held

How to Apply for an Emirates ID Fine Exemption?

To apply for a fine waiver, you must submit an exemption request along with supporting documents to prove your eligibility. You can submit your request through —

  1. The ICP Smart Services portal
  2. ICP customer happiness centres across the UAE
  3. Approved typing centres that offer ICP services

Once your application is submitted, the authorities will review your documents and decide whether to approve or reject your request. If approved, your fines will be waived and you won’t have to pay them.
