Someone has rightly said, “Organ donation is not a tragedy, but it can be a beautiful light in the midst of one.”
Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), in the light of raising awareness about organ donation, launched a campaign - Live Saver Season: Be a Donor, in collaboration with Hayat Organ Donation Programme. This campaign has been launched to motivate more residents to become registered donors.
The initiative was designed upon DHCC's notable achievement when it served as the site for Dubai's inaugural successful organ transplant operation in June 2016. From that point onwards, the DHCC community has consistently pushed forward with unwavering determination to enhance the field of organ transplant surgeries.
The emirate's forward-thinking approach to regulating laws concerning organ donation and transplantation has resulted in noteworthy advancements within the Hayat programme.
Based on the most recent data from MoHAP, an impressive total of 111 organ transplant procedures have been successfully carried out since the start of January 2023. Starting from 2017, a total of more than 460 transplants have been executed, with a specific emphasis on improving the quality of life for all segments of society.
Within the UAE, there are eight licensed healthcare facilities designated for performing organ transplants. Notably, among these facilities, Mediclinic City Hospital and Al Jalila Children's Hospital play a vital role within the DHCC ecosystem.
DHCC's informational session created a platform for families who had previously been involved in organ donation and transplantation to share their uplifting tales, thereby adding a touch of sentiment to the day and the broader cause.
Expanding upon the mission to enlighten communities about the significance of organ donation, the event also encompassed talks delivered by notable individuals. These included presentations by Dr. Ali Al Obaidli, the Chair of the UAE National Transplant Committee, Dr. Maria Gomez, the Director of Organ Transplantation at the National Center for Regulating Donation and Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues, and Dr. Farhad Janahi, an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Mohammed bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, who serves as a Consulting Urologist and Transplant Surgeon at Mediclinic City Hospital.
Being an organ donor exemplifies an exceptionally altruistic deed, bestowing the blessing of life upon those in need. Through this undertaking, DHCC aims to further their dedication to promoting organ donation and transplantation within the UAE, while also enriching the healthcare ecosystem to bolster DHCC-affiliated experts specializing in this particular domain.
