If you have involved in a car accident, whether it is your fault or fault of other motorist, the first thing that you need to do is to remain patient and calm. Accidents can happen to anyone, anytime, so the best thing is to ensure that you and other passengers are okay.

There is yet another important thing that you have to do i.e. car insurance claim. Approaching your auto insurance provider timely is much-needed in order to get your insurance claim settled successfully.

Moreover, you need to follow a few steps in order to file your car insurance claim without any hassle. Check out what you must after involving in a car accident.

Important Things to Remember After a Car Accident

Assess the Damage and Call the Police Immediately

First of all, if you met with an accident, you are required to assess the damages caused to your vehicle and if any passenger is injured during the incident, you must call the police immediately and report the accident. After inspecting the accident scene and the vehicle involved in an accident, they will give you a report accordingly. The report basically shows the reason for the accident and also determines which party is at fault.

If it is a minor accident (where no one is injured or there is no serious damage caused to the car), you can also report the incident via the Dubai Police Mobile App in Dubai and paying an additional 100 AED as manual service fees.  If there is no internet accessibility, you can also report the incident at one of ten authorized Enoc petrol stations at any police station around Dubai.

Keep in mind that you should have a police report for filing a car insurance claim in Dubai since it is a mandatory requirement. Because it carries the important details of the incident and also the relevant information of both motorists (or one). Once the report is generated, it will either be provided to you by the police for serious incidents or sent to your phone through text message.

Inform Your Insurance Provider

Once you have obtained a police report in your hand, the next important step is to contact your auto insurance company in order to let them know about the accident. Forward the exact information to your insurer even if you do not want to make an insurance claim. After that, they will ask for the police report and usually the insurance policy number which is mentioned on the registration card. Based on your insurance policy, your insurer will let you know the next steps you are required to follow. Generally, your auto insurance company will ask you to transport (or take) your vehicle to the nearby approved car service center. And then, they will handle the situation.

It is highly suggested to keep in touch with your insurer as soon as it is possible and give them the required documents in order to smooth the process of a car insurance claim.

Try to Capture the Damage Caused To Your Car on Your Camera

In order to make your insurance claim stronger, take some photographs of the accident scene, your damaged vehicle or any other bodily injury, is possible. It will work as additional proof if it is required at any point.

Know About Your Auto Insurance Policy

It is suggested to review your insurance policy carefully so that you don’t have to pay more than you should from your pocket. It will give you an exact idea of what your policy actually covers and what it is not. Understanding your policy’s terms and conditions will also help you to do negotiations with the insurer during the final claim settlement.

Required Documents to Process the Claim in Dubai

In order to process your insurance claim, you will need to submit the following documents:

  • Driving License
  • Vehicle Registration (Mulkiya)
  • Police report (it is mandatory by law after an accident)
  • Duly filled up & signed claimed form that is received from the insurance provider

If You Have Comprehensive Car Insurance in Dubai

A comprehensive motor insurance policy protects your own vehicle after an unforeseen situation such as an accident. You will need to contact your insurer in order to proceed with the claim process. While filling a car insurance claim in Dubai, be sure you keep all the required evidence like police report & contact details of other motorists. Also, you can take some pictures of the damage caused to your car or any other bodily injury. However, it is optional.

If You have a Third-Party Liability Car Insurance in Dubai

This is the most basic type of auto insurance policy that protects against all claims you’ll be responsible for like damage to the vehicle, loss of life, or bodily injury to a third-party. So, if you are responsible for the accident, you can’t make a car insurance claim since this policy will cover the third-party vehicle only. Any damage caused to your vehicle during an accident will not be covered under this insurance policy.

In a Nutshell

To avail the insurance benefits, you will need to file a car insurance claim with the insurer immediately after involving in an accident.  If they find the claim to be genuine, they will surely pay for all the damages caused to you as well as your vehicle. So, don’t delay in approaching your insurance provider as it might cost you a fortune.
