Etihad Airways Checked Baggage Allowance

All Etihad Airways flights allow you to carry free checked baggage, but Etihad baggage size and weight varies along with the class of cabins during your travel.

Passengers travelling to and from the United States and Canada in economy class, can carry two bags of up to 23 kg each, for business class and first class, two bags weighing up to 32 kg each, are allowed.

When travelling from India to any Gulf country and having purchased classic tickets or on an economy deal, or a fare saver, the check-in baggage can weigh 30 kg max. With Economy flex tickets, travellers from India to GCC are allowed to take check-in baggage weighing 35 kg.  Passengers of business or first class, can carry baggage weighing 40 kg and 50 kg respectively.

The baggage dimensions must be kept in mind while flying Etihad Airways. If you are travelling to and from the United States and Canada, your baggage must be 70 cm x 50 cm x 38 cm. 

Etihad Extra Baggage

 If you are looking at extra baggage allowance and rates online, you will have to pay in US dollars for one kilo. If you are travelling from India to the GCC, you will have to pay USD 72 for 5 kg of additional baggage after a 20% online pre-purchase discount. You must always pay online for extra baggage to avoid the high charges when buying Etihad extra baggage allowance at the airport.  

Etihad Airways Baggage Rules

  • Sporting equipment can be carried within recommended limits in your check-in baggage
  • Each passenger can carry one bag and one laptop bag, or a small briefcase. 
  • Luggage taken in flight must fit in the overhead bin or under your seat. 
  • Any assistive devices and outer garments do not count as personal items. 
  • For Coral Economy Class, the carry-on baggage allowed is one bag of max 15 lb/7 kg weight and dimension 115 cm.
  • For Pearl Business and Diamond First Class, two bags are allowed, up to 115 cm and weighing 26 lb/12 kg.
  • Carry-on bags for infants include one extra 5 kg handbag and one foldable stroller/ carry-cot, if cabin space is available. 

Etihad Guest members Baggage Allowance

Etihad Guest Silver and Gold members enjoy a free baggage allowance of 22 lb/ 10 kg and 33 lb/ 15 kg, respectively, along with the amount mentioned on their flight ticket. If the baggage limit is already included in extra allowances, guest passengers will get the higher of the two allowances.

Excess Baggage Fees

The applicable excess baggage fee is usually 1.5% of the adult one way Coral Economy class fare per kilogram.

As per the piece concept, for flights to Canada, excess baggage for all classes will be 500 AED 137 CAD per piece (up to 70 lb/ 32 kg). For flights to the USA, excess baggage charges apply in all classes for guests with more than two pieces of baggage at a charge of AED 500 per piece (up to 70 lb/ 32 kg).

CPAP machines are permitted and should display a manufacturer’s label for safety. The device must be within the weight and dimension limits. It should not block the aisle way or the entryway into the row. The device user is not permitted to sit in an exit row.
