In 1768, the Umm Al-Quwain's Al-Ali Fort was built. It was constructed to guard the entrance of the old UAQ town. But now it has been transformed into a heritage place, a museum, to be precise. But it is also a spectacular and scenic location as the fort oversees both the creek and the sea. The facade of the Fort-cum-Museum has been restored, and it has two rounded towers, and the interior of the fort doubles up as a museum. The exhibits on display are mainly from the local archaeological sites, and some exceptional artefacts have been dug out from the nearby Tell Abraq and Al-Dur towns which are here for you to see.
The history of Al-Dur dates back approximately 2,000 years. When the excavation at Al-Dur took place, a lot of things were unearthed. These artefacts included ancient Egyptian and Syrian glassware, large storage jars, tombs, stone houses and the earthenware inside them. The orange and black paint pattern is a typical Al-Dur ornamental habit as well. Some of the Al Ali Fort exhibits include foreign coins and locally minted ones. These coins are called Abi’el. Other than that, there is metalwork, jewellery, textiles and weapons dating back 200 years. All the history buffs enjoy this trip a lot. Overall, this place is a must-visit.
